Pray that the saints would be empowered in the Lord and in the might of His strength to be able to stand in the battle against all the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies (Eph. 6:10 and notes 102-4; 1:19-21).
Eph. 6:10—Finally, be empowered in the Lord and in the might of His strength.
Eph. 6:102—[The word be in Ephesians 6:10] implies that we need to exercise our will strongly.
Eph. 6:103—This word empowered in Greek has the same root as the word for power in 1:19. To deal with God’s enemy, to fight against the evil forces of darkness, we need to be empowered with the greatness of the power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the heavens, far above all the evil spirits in the air.
Eph. 6:104—In the spiritual warfare against Satan and his evil kingdom, we can fight only in the Lord, not in ourselves. Whenever we are in ourselves, we are defeated.
Eph. 1:19-21—And what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the operation of the might of His strength, which He caused to operate in Christ in raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand in the heavenlies, far above all rule and authority and power and lordship and every name that is named not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Hymns, #888, stanzas 1-2:
Soldiers of Christ, arise,
And put your armor on,
Strong in the strength which God supplies,
Through His eternal Son;
Strong in the Lord of Hosts,
And in His mighty pow’r,
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts
Is more than conqueror.
Stand then in His great might,
With all His strength endued;
And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God,
That, having all things done,
And all your conflicts past,
Ye may o’ercome through Christ alone,
And stand complete at last.
