祷告使圣徒与作他们燔祭的基督联合，而将自己献上给神，好借着焚烧与神调和（利一4及注1，申四24，来十二29）。

利一4—他要按手在燔祭牲的头上，燔祭牲便蒙悦纳，为他遮罪。

申四24—因为耶和华你的神乃是烈火，是忌邪的神。

来十二29—因为我们的神乃是烈火。
