Day 155: Prayer for the saints to overcome the flesh

Pray that the saints would overcome the flesh by God’s grace and would thoroughly put the flesh to death by the Spirit (Gen. 6:3a, 8 and note 8²; Exo. 17:8, 13 and notes 8¹ and 8²; 1 Sam. 15:2-3a, 9 and note 9¹; Gal. 5:24; Hymns, #412, ss. 1 and 5).

Gen. 6:3a, 8—And Jehovah said, My Spirit will not strive with man forever, for he indeed is flesh…But Noah found favor in the sight of Jehovah.

Exo. 17:8, 13—Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim…And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

1 Sam. 15:2-3a, 9—Thus says Jehovah of hosts, I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they set themselves against them in the way as they came up out of Egypt. Go now and strike the Amalekites; and utterly destroy all that they have…But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fatlings, and the lambs and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and worthless, this they utterly destroyed.

Gal. 5:24—But they who are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and its lusts.
